PCW x Kampar VIP Party

"Join us for an unforgettable collaboration between Philly Cider Week and Kampar at this year's Philly Cider Week Finale. Our VIP party is tucked right in the middle of the street festival, allowing ticket holders to enjoy the live music and activities before and after.

Be among the very first to preview the new Kampar space, lovingly remodeled, where they'll unveil their exciting future project. The return of Kampar isn't just any restaurant; it's a platform dedicated to shining a spotlight on under-represented food so that we may have more diversity of cuisines and flavors in Philly. Your VIP ticket purchase will play a vital role in supporting their mission.

As a VIP ticketholder, you'll be treated to a Neapolitan pizza party, freshly prepared on-site by Philly's favorite brick oven experts, Pitruco. This may be the last time you will see pizza coming out of the oven left behind by Nomad, after which Ange, one of the only female open fire chefs in the city will repurpose it for an array of cuisines she and her chefs will serve once Kampar opens. You'll also enjoy a complimentary selection of rare and hard-to-find small production ciders curated by Philly Cider Week.

Plus, we'll give you a passport to explore the local and regional cideries represented at the street festival outside! Use it either before or after the VIP party, while you listen to live music, get your tarot cards read, or strut in the costume contest. These passports, provided at the entrance gate, grant you access to 2oz samples at each of the cideries.

We can’t wait to share this experience with you!

Shacksbury Cider "Sweater Weather "Launch

On Wednesday October 25th, ASB will be hosting co-founder David Dolginow of Shacksbury Cider (Vergennes, VT) for Philly Cider Week, and he's bringing along their brand new fall release -- Sweater Weather -- for its Philadelphia debut!

We'll have cans of Sweater Weather and Deer Snacks, Shacksbury Bon Voyage on tap, and bottles and glass pours of Twig - one of our favorite small batch releases in Collaboration with Michael Lee from Twig Farm.

Since our first sip we’ve been enchanted by their dry and complex ciders, and they’re even better with food! We'll be serving special pairings by Chef Andrew Douglas along with the Shacksbury goodness.

We here at ASB love a good fall sweater almost as much as David, so what better excuse to pull on some knitwear, grab a couple tasty bites, pop some cans & bottles, and pour some cider in celebration of the apple.

The descent into Vermont winter requires mental and physical fortification. Sweater Weather is aged in peated bourbon barrels from Kings County Distillery, sports warming spices and vanilla, and tips the scales at a super-cozy 8.0% ABV. Ideally suited to fall walks, après ski, or quiet contemplation by the fire.

Cider & Cheese Pairing Class w/Amy Hartranft & Julia Birnbaum

We are thrilled to invite you to the Philly Cheese School for a delectable and educational experience that celebrates the art of cider and cheese pairing in honor of Philly Cider Week. Prepare your taste buds for a journey like no other as we explore the delightful world of craft ciders and artisanal cheeses, guided by an esteemed cider expert and our inhouse cheese nerd!

During this unique tasting class, you will have the opportunity to savor 4 exquisite craft ciders thoughtfully paired with 4 hand-selected artisanal cheeses. Whether you're a seasoned cider enthusiast or a curious novice, this event promises to be a mouthwatering adventure through a diverse range of flavors and textures.

Amy Hartranft, co-founder of Philly Cider Week, brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for the world of apples, fermentation, and craft cider. She will walk you through the cider-making process, the nuances of various cider styles, and how to appreciate the complexity of each pour. And of course, PCS's Julia Birnbaum will be there to present and talk about the cheeses.

We look forward to sharing this delightful evening with you during Philly Cider Week. Come join us for a celebration of flavors, education, and, most importantly, good company. See you there!

More about Amy Hartranft:

Amy Hartranft has been working in the Philly hospitality industry for the past seventeen years. During that time she has cultivated a love and curiosity for all of the fermented and distilled beverages but especially those that derive their strength and depth from a connection to the land on which they were grown. For the past seven of those years, understanding cider has been her passion as well as sharing what a diverse beverage, both locally and globally, it is with anyone who will listen. “Cider is an agricultural product fermented from apples, a process most similar to that of wine, and the best, most interesting liquids don't come from your average grocery store varieties.”

More about Julia Birnbaum:
"I’m Julia Birnbaum and I’ve been in the Cheese Industry since 2014. I’ve worked in cheese education, marketing, social media and more. Before making Philly Cheese School my full-time gig, I filled in as head buyer and manager for one of the largest cheese counters on the East Coast. Over the years I've been lucky enough to visit farms, meet artisan cheese producers and train under some of the best cheesemongers in the field. For me, cheese is a magical food which connects flavor to tradition and science and so much more. My favorite thing about cheese is its ability to tell a story and bring people together. Philly Cheese School was born out of my love of sharing these stories with my community. My goal here is to educate cheese lovers from near and far on this endlessly fascinating and delicious topic which I’ve dedicated my career to."

After class, participants will have access to the PCS Classroom Gift Shop, stocked with PCS merchandise and a rotating selection of cheese-themed gift items.

Cider School: Apple Exhibition & Cider Tasting w/Ploughman's Ben Wenk

Every year, Philly Cider Week strives to provide at least one educational event for the curious minds among us. Cider is still overwhelmingly misunderstood, so we embrace the opportunity that each year gives us to illuminate some truth underneath the common misconceptions. One of the biggest ones is that all cider is sweet, or cider is all the same. This year, we will tackle the topic of the apple itself and why a cider maker might choose one specific variety over another, what we mean by cider apples vs dessert apples, and the nuances provided by the former. In an industry where we talk about terroir, the grapes for wine, or the agave varietals for mezcal on a regular basis, Ben Wenk (Ploughman Cider) is bringing us an opportunity to do the same for the apples used for cider production.

“We're engaging the minds and palates of industry folks and cider enthusiasts by tasting apples and the ciders they create. Whether you've heard about "cider apples" and their unique qualities or you're just starting your journey of cider discovery, this will be an open and fun event that will demonstrate the diversity of flavors and aroma that apples possess. Join us for this memorable sensory experience!” - Ben

Ben’s talk and tasting will be first, with a happy hour to follow.

This event is free to attend but you must RSVP here!
